Return to School – September 7th, 2010
Parents, Students, and Community Members;
School Starts Tuesday, September 7thand we are all very excited about the students return to Jamieson. I am looking forward to a very fun, challenging school year and I know all our expectations are very high. I would like to remind everyone of a few events for the start of school.
Tuesday, September 7th:
All returning students should be on the playground prior to the start of school. Students will line up in last years homerooms and report to last years teacher first thing. Once the students are in the building we will move them to their new homerooms. All new studentsto Jamieson should report to the auditorium, not the playground. We will walk each child to their new rooms once the day has begun. Parents of kindergarten students should report to Jamieson at 9:30 a.m. and meet in the auditorium. It will be a full day of classes for the kindergartners.
MAP testing will be held the first two weeks of school.
School picture day will be on Friday, September 10th.
Parents, plaase remember that the first day there are many important documents sent home with the children that we need you to read, and for some items, complete and return as soon as possible.
Finally, we really appreciate your continued support of Jamieson and the high academic and behavioral expectations we have of the students. Let’s all start off the school year on a positive note and put into place some routines that will be the basis for your child’s success this school year.
1. Talk to your child daily about their day at school and what homework they need to complete.
2. Be sure you supervise your child completing their homework on a nightly basis. Turn the t.v. and stereo off and have them sit where you can monitor and support them. Help them become organized in assigning a time to complete their homework, and a place to put it to bring it back to the correct teacher. I ask all the staff to assign homework every night. In the event that your child says they have no homework, please check their assignment notebook, go to the teachers home page and check.
3. Have your child read for pleasure every night for at least 30 minutes.
4. If you have any questions regarding your child’s classroom expectations, homework, or experience, please contact the teacher directly. Please use email whenever possible, however, you can call to schedule an appointment or to have the teacher call you back.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us directly. The school staff return on Wednesday, September 1st.
