GREETINGS FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT. FIRST, I'D LIKE TO THANK THE DRAMA CLUB FOR 4 FANTASTIC PERFORMANCES OF 'THE FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.' I QUOTE WHAT MRS. DRAZNER WROTE, 'THE PERFORMANCE WAS FLAWLESS AND SHOULD BE DONE ON BROADWAY.' I WISH ALL THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS WHO ARE LEAVING THE BEST, AND URGE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MUSICALS IN HIGH SCHOOL. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING GREAT THINGS AND MAYBE I SHOULD GET YOUR AUTOGRAPHS BEFORE YOU LEAV E JAMIESON HA HA
KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ENJOYING SINGING SONGS ABOUT SPRING. THEY ARE SINGING A CHINESE SPRING SONG, AND HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO THE INSTRUMENT, THE CHINESE GONG THERE ARE MOVEMENTS TO THIS SONG. THEY ARE ALSO LEARNING THE SON, 'SPRING IS HERE SPRING IS IN THE AIR.' THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT OF A MEADOW, AND ARE SINGING 8 VERSES FROM THE STORY, 'OVER IN THE MEADOW.' THEY ARE LEARNING THE CIRCLE SONG, 'OLD BRASS WAGON.'' THEY SHOULD KNOW THEIR LEFT HAND AND FOOT FROM THEIR RIGHT THROUGH LEARNING THIS SONG.
FIRST GRADE STUDENTS ARE FINALLY ABLE TO USE THEIR TEXTBOOK, THE MUSIC CONNECTION. THEY ARE NOT ONLY LEARNING TO FIND PAGE NUMBERS, BUT ARE ABLE TO READ SOME WORDS OF THE SONGS WE ARE SINGING. THEY'RE BECOMING MORE INDIPENDENT. THEY LIKE TO SING AND PLAY A GAME CALLED 'PASS THE FLOWER ROUND AND ROUND.' THEY HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC START AND STOP. THEY WILL BE LEARNING TO DRAW AND RECOGNIZE THE HALF NOTE.
SECOND GRADE STUDENTS ARE ALSO USING THE TEXTBOOK, THE MUSIC CONNECTION. THEY ARE LEARNING ANIMAL SPANISH NAMES IN THE SONG MY FARM. ' THEY ARE LEARNING TO RECOGNIZE 24 INSTRUMENTS OF THE ORCHESTRA, AND KNOW WHAT COLOR THEY ARE. THEY KNOW SOME OF THE SOUNDS THEY PRODUCE.
THIRD GRADE STUDENTS NOW KNOW 24 ORCHESTRA INSTRUMET SOUNDS AND HAVE BEEN TESTED ON THESE SOUNDS. THEY ARE ABLE TO PLAY A FUN GAME OF BINGO. THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT FOLK SONGS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. A FOLK SONG IS A SONG THAT HAS BEEN HANDED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION WITH LITTLE CHANGE. THEY WILL BE USIGN SOME PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS AS AN ACCOMPANIMENT TO THESE SONGS.
FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE MUSIC STYLE, THE BLUES. THEY ARE LEARNING A BLUES SONG IN THE TEXTBOOK, AND A SONG ON THE RECORDER CALEED, 'I'VE GOT THE RECORDER BLUES.' THEY ARE NOW PLAYING THE RECORDER WITH BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT HAND. THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT RESTS IN MUISC.
FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE MUSIC STYLES, JAZZ AND COUNTRY. THEY ARE ALSO LEARNING THE SONG,' I'VE GOT THE RECORDER BLUES.' THEY ARE USING BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT HAND S TO PLAY NOTES ON THE RECORDER, THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT NOTE AND REST DURATIONS IN MUSIC, AND APPLYING THEM IN A SONG.
SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING 24 MUSIC STYLES AND WILL BE TESTED ON ALL 24 STYLES AS A LISTENING TEST. THEY WILL WORK IN A SMALL GROUP OR INDIVIDUALLY AND CHOSE A FAVORITE STYLE TO DO A 5 SLIDE POWER POINT PRESENTATION ON THE LAP TOP COMPUTERS. THEY WILL ALSO CHOOSE A SONG, DANCE, RAP OR INSTRUMENTAL FROM A FAVORITE GROUP OR RECORDING ARTIST AND PERFORM IT FOR AN ASSESSMENT GRADE. STUDENTS WILL LEARN THE MUSICAL SCALE ON THE KEYBOARD, AND THAT IT REPEATS. THEY WILL LEARN TO PLAY THE C MAJOR SCALE, CHROMATIC SCALE AND A 5 FINGER MELODY. THEY WILL LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MAJOR AND MINOR MODE.
SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL PERFORM AND ACTE OUT A NURSERY RHYME IN A SMALL GROUP WITH SIMPLE PROPS, COSTUMES, AND SCENERY. THEY WILL PERFORM AND TEACH THEIR NURSERY RHYME TO A KINDERGARTEN CLASS FOR A PERFORMANCE GRADE. THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT 24 COMPOSERS AND THEIR FAMOUS EXCERPTS. THEY WILL BE TESTED ON 10 COMPOSERS AND THEIR EXCERPTS. THEY WILL DO A RESEARCH PAPER ON A FAVOITE COMPOSER AND USE A COMPUTER LAP TOP TO WRITE THEIR PAPER AND FIND RESEARCH. THEY ARE MAKING A TIME LINE OF MUSICAL ERAS AND THE COMPOSERS THAT FIT IN EACH
EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING ABOUT 24 MUSIC STYLES. THEY WILL BE TESTED ON 24 STYLES AS A LISTENING TEST. THEY WILL CHOSE A FAVORITE STYLE AND DO A 5 POWER POINT SLIDE PRESENTATION. THEN THEY WILL CHOSE A FAVORITE RECORDING ARTIST OR GROUP AND PERFORM A SONG, DANCE, RAP OR INSTRUMENTAL FOR A PERFORMANCE GRADE. THEY WILL BE LEARNING 3 CHORDS ON THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR. THEY WILL LEARN HOW TO TUNE THE GUITAR, STRUM. AND USE A PICK. THEY WILL LEARN A SONG WITH A CD ACCOMPANIMENT..
