THE BEST FIRST GRADE CLASS: ROOM 401!

about your child's education!
We're in the HOME STRETCH now!
~Language Arts~
Please make sure to practice the word cards and read the stories with your child nightly. Continue to write Spelling words 3 times each and writing spelling sentences on Thursdays. Tests are on Fridays!
***"Shrinking Mouse" Test on Friday.
~Book Reports~
On the weekends, I have been sending as homework
"Book Reports" as well as "Book Reading Sheets."
***For the Book Reports, please read the school library book that the children check out weekly and complete: Title, Author, Illustrator, Characters, Setting, and Plot with 3 or more sentences.
~Math~
We are well into Unit 7 on Geometry.
Your child should know:
1. What is and isn't a polygon?
2. What are these 2D shapes?:
Square, triangle, rectangle, circle
3. What are these 3D shapes?:
Sphere, cylinder, cube, cone, rectangular prism
4. What is symmetry?
***Also, everyday we have Morning Math where we practice our addition and subtraction facts and our math concepts for this unit for a set time period.
Try this at home too!
***Unit 7 Assessments next week!
~Science~
We are well into our unit on the Solar System! We learn about the Sun, the Moon, and all 9(now 8) planets! By the end of the unit, your child should know the names of all the planets in order and a few facts about each one.
***Vocabulary words to review:
1. Orbit 2. Sun 3. Star 4. Planet 5. Moon
6. Revolution
~Social Studies~
Please make sure your child knows his/her
birthday, phone number and address.
***Geography: Continents and Oceans soon!
~~Please continue to turn in the Water-conservation Logs as they are completed every 3 weeks.
~~Please keep sending in Box-tops.
The classes with the most will receive great prizes!
Happy Easter!
We had an Easter Egg Hunt in our classroom!
~~~On our 100th Day Of School,
we had a great day of celebration!
It was fun to make necklaces, share our projects and eat brownies with 100 written on them!
~~~Feb. 22 was also our Jamieson School Spelling Bee. Congratulations go out to
Antonia, Jemimah, Hoanvu and Angela,
our Representatives from Room 401!
I was so proud of you!

Which costume was your favorite?
We worked with Mr. Harazin's 8th Grade Class to make Halloween masks. We ate munchkins and learned about Halloween safety.
