The children are finishing up another reader. We have one more to go before the end of the year. This is so exciting!! Please continue to review vocabulary words that come home and read the little stories that your children write. These stories contain vocabulary from the current weekly story. We started our spelling lessons and the spelling homework is as follows: On Monday and Tuesday the children write five words 3x each. On Wednesday the children write 5 sentences using their spelling words. Please help them with correct spelling and punctuation. On Thursday the children will need to study for the spelling test given on Friday.
It's hard to believe SPRING is here! This marks an important time for all of us in first grade. It's now that we work extremely hard preparing for the next year ahead! We focus on a multitude of concepts---long and short vowel sounds in phonics along with making inferences when we read. The children work hard, each morning, on their math facts. They do 26 "fast math" problems as soon as they enter the classroom. Writing creatively in their journals continues daily. It's so much fun to read their little stories. Reading and writing go hand in hand. Please continue to encourage them to write at home. I'm looking forward to meeting with all of you when you pick up your child's report card on April 17th! See you then!!

Please remember to check assignment notebooks nightly and remove all graded papers.
Spelling Tests and Reading Tests are given every Friday. Please help your child study for these tests early in the week.
New vocabulary words are given to the children every Friday. They should be practiced all during the following week.
Don't forget about the old vocabulary words! Practice, practice, practice!
