CONGRATULATIONS to the Vocabulary Bee winners this week: 
                       Roger and Christina!!! 

    Parents you should be extremely proud of your child as they were able to recall not only the correct spelling of 50 words, but the definitions as well. They have done an outstanding job!!!

   Here you will find important announcements and daily homework assignments. Please check this page on a regular basis.

   Sixth grade is a benchmark grade and therefore it is essential that everyone get off to the right start. Attendance and class participation are key elements for success, so keep this in mind at all times.

Everyone should be familiar with Mr. Baughman's 5 R's:
               Reading
               wRiritng
               aRithmetic
               Respect
               Responsibility

   Teachers are here to help you, but you must be willing to participate in the learning process. If at any time, there are any questions or concerns by students or parents/guardians I can be reached via e-mail at:

Language Arts Homework:
Week of October 1st - October 5th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will have our test on the poems we have been reading at the beginning of the week and will be making final corrections to our letters to Robbie Gould.

Monday, Oct. 1st: No homework

Tuesday, Oct. 2nd: Grammar: p. 299, Exercise # 6 and 7.

Wednesday, Oct. 3rd: 1. Grammar p. 299, Exercise #8 and 9. Remember to write out the sentences for Exercise 8.

Thursday, Oct. 4th:  Begin studying for Noun Test...it will be on Tuesday and will include nouns, common nouns, proper nouns and compound nouns.

Friday, Oct. 5th: Complete Vocab Unit #3 and study for Nouns Quiz.


Language Arts Homework:
Week of October 8th - October 12th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will be having a test on "Jeremiah's Song" and will be introducing pronouns.  

Monday, Oct. 8th: No school.

Tuesday, Oct. 9th: Workbook p. 19

Wednesday, Oct. 10th: 1) Workbook p. 20   2) Review for Vocab Bee   3) Study for test on "Jeremiah's Song"

Thursday, Oct. 11th: 1) Study for Vocab Test 
2) Complete "Hot Spots" worksheet

Friday, Oct. 12th: No homework...enjoy the weekend!!
Be sure to read at least 30 minutes each night!!
 

Language Arts Homework:
Week of October 15th - October 19th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will begin reading our first novel of the year...Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech.

Monday, Oct. 15th: 1. Rewrite Robbie Gould letter.
2. Vocab Unit #4 is due on Wednesday.

Tuesday, Oct. 16th: 1. Complete Vocab Unit # 4.

Wednesday, Oct. 17th: 2. Study for Vocab Bee and test.
2. Read Ch. 4 in Walk Two Moons.

Thursday, Oct. 18th: 1. Practice memorization of "Count that Day Lost"...it is due for presentation on Tuesday.
2. Complete questions for Ch. 1-4 of Walk Two Moons.
3. Enjoy your weekend...it will probably be our last in the 70's.

Friday, Oct. 19th: No school for students


Language Arts Homework:
Week of October 22nd - October 26th
LOOKING AHEAD: Our primary focus will be on our novel, although we will have our presentations for "Count that Day Lost" on Tuesday.

Monday, Oct. 22nd: 1. Make sure that "Count that Day Lost" is completely memorized and that you are prepared to present in front of the class tomorrow.  2. Vocabulary Unit #5 is due on Wednesday.

Tuesday, Oct. 23rd: Vocabulary Unit #5 due tomorrow...you should also begin reviewing for the Vocab Bee and for your test on Friday. 

Wednesday, Oct. 24th: 1. Review for Vocab Bee and Vocab pretest. 2. Grammar book p. 301: Exercise 14.

Thursday, Oct. 25th: Study for Vocab Test.

Friday, Oct. 26th: 1. Complete Questions for Ch. 4-8 of Walk Two Moons. 2. Study for WTM Quiz: Chapters 1-8.
3. Begin working on Vocab Unit #6. 5 x's each is due on Tuesday since we will be having a shortened week.


Language Arts Homework:
Week of October 29th - October 31st
LOOKING AHEAD: We will have our first quiz on "Walk Two Moons". 

Monday, Oct. 29th: 1. Complete Vocab Unit #6
2. Complete "I Am" poem.

Tuesday, Oct. 30th: Review for Vocab Bee.

Wednesday, Oct. 31st: While you are trick-or-treating, be sure to recite your Unit #6 words....or darkness will befall!!

Social Studies Homework:
Week of October 1st - October 5th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will be having a quiz on Chapter 1 Lesson 2 on Tuesday.

Monday, Oct. 1st: Workbook p. 4 and study for quiz!!

Tuesday, Oct. 2nd: Chapter 1 Lesson 3 vocabulary

Wednesday, Oct. 3rd: "My Life" activity. List an event for each year, starting with the year you were born all the way through 2007. Choose an important event that happened during that year and write it down...we will be using this list for an activity we will be working on in class. This assignment is due on Friday.

Thursday, Oct. 4th: No classes due to GREAT

Friday, Oct. 5th: Timeline events continued: List a significant event that occurred each year from the time that you were born. (1995/1996, 1997, 1998-2007)
Group #3: Events in U.S. History
Group #2: Events in Chicago History
Group #1: Events in World History


Social Studies Homework:
Week of October 8th - October 12th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will be wrapping up Lesson 3, so be prepared for a quiz. We will also comtinue our Timeline project. Your first chapter test is on the horizon...next Wednesday as a matter of fact.

Monday, Oct. 8th: No school

Tuesday, Oct. 9th: Complete summary of Chapter 1 Lesson 3 and make necessary corrections to timelines.

Wednesday, Oct. 10th: 1) Workbook pgs 5-6. 2) Study for Friday's quiz on Chapter 1 Lesson 3  and   3) You need a total of 10 pictures for your timelines: 5 for your personal timeline and 5 for the timeline of either Chicago, U.S. or world events. Remember do not go and destroy your family albums. Scanning the picture is an option as is getting a generic image for the event. Email me if you are uncertain.

Thursday, Oct. 11th: No classes due to GREAT

Friday, Oct. 12th: 1) Completed Chapter 1 Study Guide is due on Tuesday. 2) 10 pictures and 2 timelines need to be brought to class on Monday to complete Parallell Timeline project. 3) Begin studying for Chapter 1 test...it is on Wednesday and is equivalent to half (50%) of your grade!!!
 

Social Studies Homework:
Week of October 15th - October 19th
LOOKING AHEAD: Test on Chapter 1 will be on Wednesday...strive to be present so that these tests can be graded and returned in a timely fashion so that we may begin our next venture into the ancient world.

Monday, Oct. 15th: Complete Chapter 1 Study Guide

Tuesday, Oct. 16th: Study for test...review your notes, look over the workbook pages and study the study guide!!!!!

Wednesday, Oct. 17th: No homework...enjoy the next few days. You should be receiving your tests on Monday and we will go over them!

Thursday, Oct. 18th: No classes due to GREAT

Friday, Oct. 19th: No school for students...enjoy the long weekend!!


Social Studies Homework:
Week of October 22nd - October 26th
LOOKING AHEAD: We will be finishing up our parallel timeline project and will begin Chapter 2.

Monday, Oct. 22nd: Chapter 2 Lesson 1 vocabulary

Tuesday, Oct. 23rd: Summarize the first two sections of Chapter 2 Lesson 1, pages 35-36. Write 3 main points for each section. Make sure that your points discuss who, what, when, where and why.

Wednesday, Oct. 24th: 1. Complete summary of Chapter 2 Lesson 1. Identify 3 main points for each of teh last 2 sections. 2. Begin reviewing for Lesson 1 quiz (Friday)

Thursday, Oct. 25th: Study for Chapter 2 Lesson 1 Quiz

Friday, Oct. 26th: Complete Ch. 2 Lesson 2 Vocab. (There are 16 words)


Social Studies Homework:
Week of October 29th - October 31st
LOOKING AHEAD: We will be watching a video on Mesopotamia.

Monday, Oct. 29th: Summarize page 40-41: 3 main points for each section.

Tuesday, Oct. 30th: No homework

Wednesday, Oct. 31st: No classes...enjoy Halloween!!

Students have their passwords so grades can now be checked online.

There are several students who still need to submit their school fee...please get this turned in as soon as possible. 

As of October 1st, shorts will not be allowed at school.
