May Events and a look ahead
Parents, Community Members, and students;
Dear Parents,
Our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting scheduled for Friday, May 24th has been canceled due to lack of a 2013-2014 school year budget.
One of our important agenda items for the upcoming meeting will be to set next year’s PAC meeting dates and times, and to tentatively appropriate Federal funds for parent involvement.
We will tentatively schedule our May meeting for Friday, May 31st at 9:00 a.m. We will meet outside the main office near the auditorium entrance. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding in the need to reschedule.
With the onset of May Jamieson, like all other Chicago Public Schools, is required to administer end of the year assessments to all students in grades K-8. Our kindergarten through first grade will be taking the TRC test (a one on one test administered by our teachers), second grade will be taking the TRC and MAP test (reading and math), and our third through eighth grade will be taking MAP reading and Math as well. In addition to these test our 8th graders will also be taking the Explore (high school course placement exam) and some 8th graders will be taking their algebra exit exams. To say the least, May will be very challenging to our students and we ask for your continued support in a number of ways. We would like to encourage all our parents to continue to discuss, daily, with their child(ren) the events of their school day, encourage the children to remain focused and attentive both in class and in completing homework. We would also like all our parents to continue to be vigilant regarding their child’s getting to bed on time and being to school on time. With our combined efforts, the students will have fewer problems and anxiety over any testing requirements this month.
This has been a very unique school year for everyone. The students school day and number of days attending school have both been increased. The students have done a fantastic job adjusting to a longer school day and we appreciate your support. I’d like to remind everyone that our school year will not end until June 24th (Monday – a regular school day). This longer year will be another adjustment for our kids. Together we need to continue to encourage, remind, and observe our kids continuing to remain focused on learning. Often times June rolls around and students become excited about summer and less focused on school. I would like your continued support to help us keep the students focused on school through June 24th. The teachers will have varied learning activities, field trips, and some outside learning projects for the students, but the message and expectations we want to send to all the students is that when in school, the focus is on learning and staying attentive to our work.
Respectfully,
Robert Baughman – Principal
