J.E.F.F. Transforms the L.M.C.

Thanks to the generosity of Jamieson's Friends and Families, the LMC is in line for an Extreme Makeover - Soon the workstations in the library will be moved into the classrooms to free up space for reading/work centers. The focus of the Jamieson LMC for the 2007-08 school year and beyond will be to foster a love of reading in Jamieson's student population.

With that end in mind, Mrs. Loftus, the Jamieson Administration and
J.E.F.F. have decided to make Jamieson's LMC a model for the intergration of reading and technology. Within the last year over 1,500 books have been purchased, (primarily young adult fiction and early reader series books) in order to encourage reading throughout all of Jamieson's grades. Additionally most of Jamieson's titles have been correlated with Reading Counts so that students may take quizzes on the books they have read for credit in their Language Arts classes. Also, the library's automated chekout system has been revamped and on the first day of school all of Jamieson's students will be encouraged to start checking out books.

However, the role of technology in the LMC has not been ignored. J.E.F.F. has committed to replace the older Toshiba workstations with brand new Dell Laptops that students will be able to use for research projects, multimedia presentations and class assignments. Teachers will have the option of using the laptops in the LMC or in their classrooms.

Thanks to the generosity of the Jamieson Family, we are ensuring that our children are prepared with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

J.E.F.F. supports Reading for the Entire Family!

J.E.F.F. is very pleased to take an active role in supporting the SIPAAA goal's of Jamieson Elementary and to promote reading as a fun and enjoyable activity for the entire family.

Who is J.E.F.F.?

J.E.F.F. or Jamieson Elementary Friends & Family, is a not for profit organization, founded by parents and teachers who want to help Jamieson School provide the best possible educational experiences possible for Jamieson's children.

What does J.E.F.F. do?

J.E.F.F's primary job is to raise money for special projects for Jamiseon. There are many needs at Jamieson-for additional classroom supplies, library books, and better computers. Each year we will work with Jamieson School, staff, teachers and Local School Council to identify special needs that we can fill.

We will raise this money by organizing a series of fundraising events, getting in touch with Jamieson Alumni and families, and by applying for grants.

How can you help?

In order for J.E.F.F. to be effective, we will need the help of a lot of of parents and family members. Parents and families will be asked to give time and support. We ask you to consider whether you have time to volunteer for special fundraising events and whether you have special skills that can help us be more effective.

I want to help. What do I do?

Please fill out the Parent/Family Form to tell us about how you would like to help. We are happy to hear from any family members who are willing to help.

After filling out the form, we will be in touch with you promptly to talk to you more specifically about what we need help with, and how you can fit in.

Thank you,

The J.E.F.F. Board of Directors
