Jamieson Report Card Pick-Up
MARK YOUR CALENDARS and SAVE THE DATES—February 11 and 12!
On behalf of JEFF and Jamieson School, I’d like to invite parents, teachers, students, community members, and local and state representatives to our Playground Plan and Campus Park Brainstorming Event set for Saturday, February 11th, 2012. We have formed a relationship with the Urban Habitat Chicago—a non-profit organization that provides landscape planning and facilitation expertise.
The session will begin at 9:45 a.m. with refreshments prior to UHC’s presentation outlining the process. Then, we will invite participants to comment on, draw, and otherwise articulate what they would like to see Jamieson’s playground become. This session will run from 11:15 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and ALL are welcome to join in. This is designed to be a collaborative event that will allow all members of the Jamieson community to participate and form a long term relationship to improve the school, beautify the neighborhood, and support family use of our campus. I hope to see many people in attendance.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Baughman at 773-534-2395.
Parents, Students, and Community Members,
Welcome back from a well deserved and hopefully restful winter break. I hope all the students are ready to begin the second half of the year with a renewed energy and commitment to their learning. Events and items to remember as we begin the new year:
All our bilingual students will be taking the state mandated ACCESS test for English proficiency. We hope to have their testing completed by the third week of January.
All our kindergarten students will be taking their mid-year DIBELS and TRC reading test. This testing should be completed by the end of January. Please ask your child’s teacher for results so the two of you can work together to insure every kindergarten student is reading at the first grade level by the end of the school year.
Parents, we hope to resume many of our before and after school programs starting the second week of January. Your child will be bringing home a list of the programs available and the number of students participating in those programs.
Our community partners at the “Asian Human Services” will be hosting registration for many of their parent classes. ESL and Computer -Tuesday, January 3rd from 9:30 – 6:30, Early Childhood Education Bridge – Tuesday, January 3rd – Friday, January 6th 9:00 – 1:00, and Pre-GED Tuesday, January 3rd and Wednesday January 4th 3:00 -5:00.
Our next PAC meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 24th at 9:15 a.m. and our LSC meeting will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 7 p.m.
The new year is a good time to touch base with your child on his/her school goals (completing all homework assignments, making super honor roll, not being late to school, getting an “A” in a certain class, etc.). I hope each family takes the time to discuss not only the students goals but also what steps the student, parents, and teacher plan on taking to help the student be successful in reaching his/her goal.
Welcome back.
Mr. Baughman
Dear Parents, students, and community members;
As December quickly comes to a close I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe Winter Break. There are still some very important items to remember as we end this calendar year and enter a new year.
1. The JEFF h0liday craft fair will be held on December 19th and 20th. Parents may also stop by the fair to shop or just look at the many great items. Please remember the raffel ticket sell going on that has some great prizes like the trip for 6 to a Wilderness Park in the Dells as well as an IPad 3, or an American Girl doll, just to name a few.
2. Our Annual Winter Sing Along will be held on Wednesday, December 21st with a performance at 9:15 forK-3 and another performance at 1:00 p.m for 4th-5th. Parents are invited to attend.
3. Our upper grade, 6th – 8th, Winter Dance will be held on Thursday, December 22nd. This is our annual food drive for needy families so students attending the dance are asked to donate a canned food item. We are also expanding the food drive to students in every grade. So if a family wishes to donate, please have your child bring in a canned item on Thursday, Dec. 22nd.
4. Our last day of school will be Friday, December 23rd – it will be a regular school day.
5. Winter Break will be from December 26th – January 6th. School Resumes on Monday, January 9th.
Parents as much as we hope the entire family takes time to relax and enjoy one another’s company, we also ask that you maintain a regular schedule for your child to read, work on Compass Learning or JiJi Math (Grades 2 and 3). Developing and maintaining good study habits, especially over extended breaks, goes a long way in developing life long learners and responsible adult behaviors.
Enjoy your break and have a very happy and safe New Year.

Parent, students, and community members;
I would like to thank all the hard work that the students, and the endless help provided by the parents, in completing the science fair projects for this school year. We had a wonderful turnout with many quality presentations. A big “Thank You” to Mr. McCann and many of the students from DePaul for judging this year’s fair. Our school winners and representatives to the Network Fair, which will be held in January, are: M. Wong – 8th Grade, I. Barrientos – 7th Grade, and E. Hernandez and A. Kummerer – 7th Grade. Great job students!
I would also like to congratulate our former graduate, S. Khan, now attending Lane Tech H.S., for his perfect ACT score of 36. Way to go. Another example of outstanding Jamieson talent.
December is quickly approaching but before everyone gets into “winter break” mode, please remember that our MAP testing will begin on Monday, December 5th and last for two weeks. Please have all students attend school daily and on time. Also, this winter measure will allow us all to view the students and their progress of meeting their end of year educational goals including growth goals. The progress made on this test is also a good indicator to the students possible success on the ever important ISAT test in March.
Parents, please don’t forget that if anyone has any questions regarding the new School Progress Report Card to please see myself or Mr. Toledo for help in understanding any section or in answering any of your questions. We are very proud of being a level 1 school and our success is directly related to your involvment and your children’s hard work.
I hope to see many of you at one of our winter performances.
