Parents, Community Members, and students;
With the onset of May Jamieson, like all other Chicago Public Schools, is required to administer end of the year assessments to all students in grades K-8. Our kindergarten through first grade will be taking the TRC test (a one on one test administered by our teachers), second grade will be taking the TRC and MAP test (reading and math), and our third through eighth grade will be taking MAP reading and Math as well. In addition to these test our 8th graders will also be taking the Explore (high school course placement exam) and some 8th graders will be taking their algebra exit exams. To say the least, May will be very challenging to our students and we ask for your continued support in a number of ways. We would like to encourage all our parents to continue to discuss, daily, with their child(ren) the events of their school day, encourage the children to remain focused and attentive both in class and in completing homework. We would also like all our parents to continue to be vigilant regarding their child’s getting to bed on time and being to school on time. With our combined efforts, the students will have fewer problems and anxiety over any testing requirements this month.
This has been a very unique school year for everyone. The students school day and number of days attending school have both been increased. The students have done a fantastic job adjusting to a longer school day and we appreciate your support. I’d like to remind everyone that our school year will not end until June 24th (Monday – a regular school day). This longer year will be another adjustment for our kids. Together we need to continue to encourage, remind, and observe our kids continuing to remain focused on learning. Often times June rolls around and students become excited about summer and less focused on school. I would like your continued support to help us keep the students focused on school through June 24th. The teachers will have varied learning activities, field trips, and some outside learning projects for the students, but the message and expectations we want to send to all the students is that when in school, the focus is on learning and staying attentive to our work.
Respectfully,
Robert Baughman – Principal
Parents, students, and Community Members;
Jamieson is pleased to announce we will be part of the City of Chicago’s Ready to Learn Pre-school program for the 2013-2014 school year. Applications and information will be available starting on Wednesday, April 17th during report card pick up and after that date in the main office. An application must be filled out for each child and turned in to approved application representatives. A representative will be available at Jamieson only on Wednesday, April 24th between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Applications may be turned in, at earlier dates and times, to other approved sites. All approved sites are listed on information material available on April 17th. Applications may be submitted until Friday, May 3rd.
I hope everyone had a very restful and enjoyable spring break. As we move into the month of April I’d like to reach out and ask for everyone’s continued support in helping our students stay focused, attentive, and maintaining the hard work they put towards their schooling. Here are the upcoming events for April:
I’d like to recognize and thank IHOP on Lincoln Ave for once again sponsoring our annual Honor’s Breakfast. IHOP provided all of our Honor and Super Honor roll students (Students with straight A’s or A’s and B’s for the first two marking periods) with a complimentary breakfast to honor and congratulate them on their hard work and dedication to becoming a scholar. Jamieson and the rest of the community really appreciate the support from IHOP.
I’d like to congratulate the following students for advancing to the Chicago History Fair competition being held on Saturday, April 13th at NEIU.
Daria J., Tony R., Katherine D., Josue E., Caleigh V., Elizabeth F., Anai H., Selena K., Sophie J., Jessie H., George G., Catherine J., Nikola B., and Casey N. Excellent job by all and continued good luck at City!
Our After School All Stars will begin again for the spring session starting on Monday, April 1st. All students in programs taking place prior to spring break received information to take home to their parents detailing if the program was continuing or ending. Please double check with your child and if you have any questions, please call.
Parents, I hope to see everyone at Report Card Pick Up (Wednesday, April 17th starting at noon). Our structure for our middle grade classes (grades 6-8) will be different, and we will have many guest to spaek about programs for the family and children; Asian Human Services, Chicago Park District, J.E.F.F., and our school Book Fair. Again this year we will ask parents to take the My Voice, My School survey while they are in the building.
Respectfully,
R. Baughman – Principal
Finally
Parents, students, and community members;
During the first two weeks of March (5th – 15th), the students in grades 3-8 will be taking the ISAT (Illinois State Achievement Test) at Jamieson. This is a very important test for all the children and the school. We would like your support in helping make sure the children are ready to do their absolute best on the test. Please be sure that all children get a good nights sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast, and come to school daily and on time. However, if you child is ill, we would prefer they stay home and get healthy prior to returning to school. Any test missed can be made up at a later date.
This month at the Thursday, March 21st LSC meeting, the LSC will be considering, and possibly voting on, the AT&T proposal to install a cellular antenna on the smoke stack at Jamieson. This has been an LSC agenda topic for the past two council meetings.
Parents, our 6-8th grade family movie night has been CANCELED.
Parents, please remember that Sunday, March 10th is daylight savings time. Everyone needs to move their clocks ahead by one hour. Please be sure to do this so all students can be to school on Time on Monday, March 11th.
Finally a reminder that our spring break will be during the week of March 25th – 29th. Classes will resume on Monday, April 1st.
R. Baughman
Parents, students, and community members,
Parents, in lieu of Friday’s tragic events, I feel it necessary to reassure everyone that Jamieson follows very strict security measures when it comes to allowing entrance into the building throughout the school day. Entry can only be gained after security or the main office respond to a buzzer and visual request to enter the building. Our security desk is manned at all times and all visitors are first directed to the main office before being allowed any further into the building. Your child(rens) safety takes top priority at Jamieson. As for our regular parent visitors/volunteers, I’d like to not only continue to welcome all of you to Jamieson, but also stress that our entrance and visitor procedures must be followed by even our most avid supporters and visitors – thank you. On behalf of all the Jamieson community I’d like to give our most sincere condolences to all the families affected by Friday’s events.
Friday, Dec. 14th we experienced another power outage at Jamieson. This time a transformer stopped working. Our back up generators maintained power through the regular school day, and our outstanding students and faculty continued with their regular day of learning. The transformer has been repaired and we are back to regular power for Monday.
December really started off with a bang this year. Jamieson inducted our first class of the National Junior Honor Society members. We are extremely proud of these outstanding young people. They have demonstrated their personal dedication to scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character. Congratulations go to the following students:
Daniel A., Abigail A., Isabella B., Maria B., Christian B., Mohammed C., Emily C., Ganise C., Nicole D., Marissa D., Josue E., Zaned H., Sophie J., Daria J., Youser K., Farhaad K., Yumna K., Nina L., Kelly M., Nathala A., Josanne P., Jeremy R., Amari S., Melike S., Nisa S., and Aminah S.
I’d like to thank the third grade team, in collaboration with Mrs. Franco and Jamieson art classes, for participating in the Children Celebrate Children Event in December. The children help decorate a holiday tree that will be moved to a local hospital where they brighten the hallways for the seriously ill patients who are unable to return to their homes for the holiday season. What a great way of providing community service and support for those is difficult situations.
Other December Events Include:
Our parent support group, JEFF, will soon begin it’s annual Holiday Gift Shop/Craft Fair and Raffle. Raffle tickets and information on prizes will be sent home within the next week. This is completely optional of any student to participate; if a student does participate, we ask that they work with their parents to sell to friends and co-workers. No student should be going door to door to sell tickets. The event is really fun and the kids get really excited, I hope the family is able to participate in this event.
I’d also like to mention that on Tuesday, November 27th we will be holding our National Junior Honor Society inductee ceremonies at 6:00 p.m. We are extremly proud of all our students, but especially proud of our students that have consistently demonstrated high levels of academic and social achievement as Jamieson students. Congratulations to all.
Respectfully,
Mr. Baughman
Parents, students, and community members;
Jamieson has been experiencing problems with our web page and we are working closely with our host server to correct the problems. We hope to have all problems resolved as soon as possible. Please be patient and we apologize for any additional outages or lack of classroom information that may be caused by these difficulties.

Parents, just a reminder that progress reports are sent home on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th week of each quarter. Progress reports will be sent home always on a Friday. You can also access your students grades via the Parent Portal system at any time. I strongly encourage you to check this site, with your child, on a weekly basis.
I want to also thank all of our hard-working parent volunteers that have been supporting Jamieson during the students lunch periods. These parents give freely of their time and energy to be sure everyone’s child enjoys a good lunch in a safe and caring environment. A big Thank you goes to:
Mrs. Perazic, Mrs Fousias, Mrs. Jagurdzija, Mrs. Jacob, Mrs. Georgitsos, and Mrs. Velez.
I hope everyone enjoys the cooler fall weather.
