  • MARK YOUR CALENDARS and SAVE THE DATES—February 11 and 12!

On behalf of JEFF and Jamieson School, I’d like to invite  parents, teachers, students, community members, and local and state representatives to our Playground Plan and Campus Park Brainstorming Event set for Saturday, February 11th, 2012.  We have formed a relationship with the Urban Habitat Chicago—a non-profit organization that provides landscape planning and facilitation expertise.

The session will begin at 9:45 a.m. with refreshments prior to UHC’s presentation outlining the process. Then, we will invite participants to comment on, draw, and otherwise articulate what they would like to see Jamieson’s playground become This session will run from 11:15 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and ALL are welcome to join in. This is designed to be a collaborative event that will allow all members of the Jamieson community to participate and form a long term relationship to improve the school, beautify the neighborhood, and support family use of our campus. I hope to see many people in attendance.

If you have any questions, please contact Principal Baughman at 773-534-2395.

Mrs. Welch and Mrs. Ries

Welcome You to Room 111

Welcome to School

I’d like to introduce you to the Room 111 team.  While Room 111 is ‘home’ to Mrs. Welch, it is only ’home base’ to Mrs. Ries.  Mrs. Ries works with the special education students in kindergarten through second grade.  We “team teach”.  This means that she teaches a part of each day.  When Mrs. Ries is not in our room Mrs. Kincaid will be available to work with anyone who needs help.

It is a pleasure to keep you aware of what is going on in our class through our website. Each week all the homework will be listed on this site so feel free to check up on your kids. Homework for the week will be changed after school by the last school day of the week. Any scheduled holidays, institute days or field trips will be noted with the homework. These should also be in their assignment notebooks.

Shortly, there should be pictures below from a class project we are doing for the science fair this year.  You will see that everyone is having a good time as we learn about science experiments. Everyone should learn that to be an experiment what they do must be able to be measured and repeated. This year we are running a series of experiments to discover what contributes to the temperature we feel around us.

    IMPORTANT EVENTS THIS WEEK

We just started the new story, Frogs, this Wednesday. As we spend five days on each story we won’t finish up until next Wednesday.  That is when the worksheet packet will be due.  There is no spelling test this week.  The latest word list will be assessed on next Tuesday.

Thank you to those who finished paying their $55.00 student fee.  For those who still owe this fee, please start paying something toward the remainder.  We have two remaining field trips in the spring.  The office has notified me that no students with an outstanding balance will be allowed to attend the next field trip. They prefer if you pay by check. I will continue to send reminders.

I urge everyone to send their children dressed for the weather. We have been spoiled by the many 40 degree days, but even these relatively warm temperatures require hats and gloves when playing outside. As long as it isn’t actively snowing or bitterly cold we will be going outside, even if all we do is walk around the block.  Fresh air is good for our health. The children love recess and I can’t take them out if they are not properly dressed.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Compass Learning/Language Arts is assigned for homework.  I expect the students to average 2 to 3 times a week on this interactive website.  I will be able to see who is doing it and who isn’t. Those who don’t will receive check marks for not completing homework. If they can’t do it at home for any reason, the public library allows you to sign up for computer time. JiJi math can also be played at home.
