Technology at Jamieson
G
ood Day – My name is Rodney Sandman and I am the new Computer/ Technology Coordinator at Jamieson Elementary.
Technology has come to touch all of our lives: be it through a smartphone, an iPad, or through email and the internet.
Therefore, I believe that I have been entrusted with an important task of educating our students in the art of using technology simply and correctly.
Some of the assignments we will be completing will take multiple periods and will require that the students work from home.
Different students will work at different rates.
However all assignments must be completed by the due date.
If a student is absent, it is student’s responsibility to determine what the assignment was (by asking classmates or myself, the teacher(rpsandman@cps.edu).
For 3rd Quarter:
First graders are improving their math skills by “playing” with JiJi the penguin (http://web.stmath.com/) and
their reading skills with Starfall (www.starfall.com).
Fifth graders will be working on email and Google document skills.
Sixth graders are exploring a variety of topics.
Seventh grader are working on Animation.
Eighth graders
Room 216 and Room 306 - will examining websites and how best to create one for themselves.
Room 304 – is figuring out how games work and will create a computer game of there own.
I am sure that Computers will become one of your favorite classes at Jamieson.

Logging into the Computers at School
Students are expected to log into the computers at school by using their google@cps username and passwords. At this time only seventh and eighth graders are knowlegable in this process although I am sure that soon all grades will learn to follow this process.
For those unable to access the computers with their google@cps account information, there is a generic username and password that may be used.
Saving Files on the Network
Studentwork – (s:/) This drive is for students and student related files.
Personal Folder – (u:/) When logged in with google@cps information
Printing in the Jamieson Computer Lab
The computer lab at Jamieson Elementary School is open for students to print school related documents. The lab has both a black & white and a color printer. Students are encouraged to use the black & white printer for the bulk of their printing needs. However, if printing in color will enhance their presentation then that is allowed.
